Gingivitis is the most frequent morbidity of periodontal disease.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”justified”]If untreated, it may spread to other tooth-surrounding tissues and consequently lead to the loss of the tooth.\u00a0Inflammation of the gums is caused by bacterial plaque \u2013 colourless film that constantly forms on your teeth. If plaque is not removed by brushing and flossing, over time it may accumulate and bacteria damage not only the teeth, but gum tissues and bones, being teeth support. It may cause loosening or falling out of teeth or the need to extract the teeth by the dentist.[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”There are three stages of progressing periodontal disease:<\/p>\n

If daily brushing and flossing do not remove the plaque, bacteria in the plaque produce toxins, that can irritate the gum tissue, causing gingivitis. You may notice some bleeding during brushing and flossing. At this early stage in gum disease, damage can be reversed, as the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place are not yet affected by the disease.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”justified”]<\/i> Periodontitis:<\/strong> At this stage, the supporting bone and fibres that hold your teeth in place are irreversibly damaged. A pocket below the gum line forms, which traps food and plaque. Proper dental treatment and intensive home care usually help prevent further damage. Yet failure to start treatment results in lowering
\nthe gum line and edge of the bone supporting the tooth. It may come to complications due to additional infection, resulting in discharge of pus from the pocket and considerable painfulness.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”justified”]<\/i> Advanced Periodontitis:<\/strong> At this stage of disease, the fibres and bone supporting your teeth are destroyed, which can cause your teeth to shift and loosen and may consequently lead to the need for their removal.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”justified”]Gum disease can occur at any age, but it is most common among adults. If detected in its early stages, gum disease can be reversed so see your dentist if you notice any of the following symptoms:<\/strong><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/i> gums that are red, swollen or tender
\n<\/i> gums that bleed during brushing or flossing
\n<\/i> teeth that look longer because your gums hale receded
\n<\/i> gums that have separated or pulled away from your teeth
\n<\/i> changes in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
\n<\/i> pus coming from between your teeth and gums
